Obituary for Janet McCombs

Janet McCombs, Pharm.D., was called Home on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, after a very lengthy illness. Dr. McCombs was born in Pensacola, Florida, on June 6, 1957, to Joann Johnson McCombs and William C. McCombs, Sr.

Dr. McCombs was a graduate of Milton High School Class of 1975 and received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Auburn University in 1980. She continued her educational endeavors at Mercer University where she received her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 1981. She then spent 24 years as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Georgia before retiring in 2005. Jan was an avid college football fan and pulled for her beloved Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs each Saturday EXCEPT that fateful day in November when they met each other on the grid iron. That week she would proudly proclaim among her peers a hearty WAR EAGLE!

She is preceded in death by her mother, Joann J. McCombs.

She leaves to cherish her memory her father William C. McCombs, Sr., of Pace, Florida; her brother Bill McCombs (Mary) of Altamonte Springs, Florida; one niece, Rachel McCombs of Gainesville , Florida; one nephew, Conner McCombs of Altamonte Springs; one sister, Leann McCombs of Pace, Florida; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be David Cox, Greg Johnson, Ben Edwards, Mike McCombs, and Conner McCombs.
We are certain that she was greeted by our Mom as she arrived in Heaven. They now dance together among the angels, all pain and suffering removed!

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to her very dear friends in Athens, Georgia, Al and Susan Henderson. They were her guardian angels and were like family to her. We appreciate your unselfish love, care and concern for our sister.

Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at Lewis on Friday, December 19, 2014, from 5-7. With the funeral scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Jan will be laid to rest next to her mother at Serenity Gardens.
